Two major components of systematic desensitization are:

 • The first step is to identify the fear hierarchy.
 • The next step is to learn relaxation or coping skills.

What is systematic desensitization?

 • Systematic desensitization, also known as graduated exposure therapy, was developed by psychiatrist Joseph Wolpe.
 • It is used when classical conditioning is used to maintain a phobia or anxiety disorder.
 • It combines aspects of cognitive-behavioral therapy and applied behavior analysis.
 • It is based on radical behaviorism when used in applied behavior analysis because it incorporates counterconditioning precepts.
 • Meditation (a private behavior or covert conditioner) and breathing are two examples (a public behavior or overt conditioning).
 • According to cognitive psychology, cognitions and feelings precede behavior, so cognitive restructuring is used first.

Components of systematic desensitization:

 • The systematic desensitization procedure is divided into three steps.
 • The first step is to identify the fear hierarchy.
 • The next step is to learn relaxation or coping skills.
 • Finally, the individual employs these techniques to manage their fear during a hierarchy-related situation.

Therefore, the two major components of systematic desensitization are:

 • The first step is to identify the fear hierarchy.
 • The next step is to learn relaxation or coping skills.

Answer:

Proactive interference

Explanation:

Proactive interference occurs when the old memories interfere with new information to restrain. Due to proactive interference, a person finds difficulties to store the new information because of the interference of old memories. It is not common phenomena but it occurs with everyone in their lifetime.

For example when you learned the name of Asian countries and after that, you might learn the name of the African country's name and you recall the names of African countries name you would probably miss the name of both Asian and African countries name.

Thus due to proactive interference, most people are not able to recall the new information because of similar information they learned before.
