Before the Cold War, the atomic age started. Three nations: England, USA and Soviet Union, decided that during World War II, they would construct the nuclear bomb. Britain set aside its own job and became a junior partner in 1943 of the Manhattan Project. Before August 1945, the Soviet effort was tiny. British and U.S projects were motivated by fear of a German nuclear bomb, but Germany chose not to make any severe attempts in 1942 to construct the bomb. The United States produced two bombs ready for use by August 1945, in an exceptional show of science and industrial power. By that time, Germany had been defeated, but President Harry S.
