The probability that the horse will win the race if the odds in favor of a horse winning a race are 8:5 is 38.4%.

What is Probability ?

Probability states that it is the likelihood of something happening in the future and Its value lie between 0 and 1.

According to the given question.

The odds against buttermilk winning the triple race crown in horse racing are 82:3.

Out of 85 chances the horse win the race 3 times and not win the 82 times.

So, total number of favorable outcomes = 3

And, total number of outcomes = 82 + 3 = 85

Therefore,

The probability that horse will win the race

= Number of times won / (Number of times lost + Number of times won)

= total number of favorable outcomes/total number of outcomes

= 3/ (82 + 3)

= 3/85

= 3.4%

Hence, the probability that the horse will win the race is 3.4%.
