(a)The ratio of the number of machine to the number of crates packed is 1:4.5

(b) crates of oranges in 90 pack per day by machine is 405.

What is Ratio?

An ordered pair of numbers a and b, represented as a / b, is a ratio if b is not equal to 0. A proportion is an equation that sets two ratios at the same value. For instance, you could express the ratio as follows: 1: 3 if there is 1 boy and 3 girls (for every one boy there are 3 girls)

Given that;

40 identical machines in a factory pack 180 crates of oranges per day

So,

a) The ratio of the number of machines to the number of crates packed per day is:

40/180 = 1:4.5

b) crates of oranges would 90 of these machines pack per day is

40/180 = 90/x

x = \frac{180\times 90}{40}

x = 4.5 x 90

x = 405

Suppose a car uses one gallon of gasoline for every 20 miles traveled.
anzhelika [568]

The miles that can be travelled in the car on $30 gasoline is 240 miles (option A).

How many miles can the car travel?

The first step is to determine the total gallons in the car. The total gallons in the car can be determined by dividing the total value of the gasoline the car by the cost per gallon. Division is the process of determining the quotient of two or more numbers.

Total gallons = total value of gasoline in the car / cost per gallon

$30 / $2.50 = 12 gallons

The next step is to determine the total miles that the car can travel using the gallons available. To determine the total miles, multiply the total gallons by the number of miles that that one gallon can cover.

Total miles = miles one gallon can cover x total gallons in the car

12 x 20 = 240 miles
