When Chillingworth finds out that his wife has been pregnant by another man, he becomes driven by a desire for vengeance. He presses her further about the father and demands that she identify him, but she refuses. This is an example of irony in chapter 1.

What is irony?

Irony can take the form of dramatic irony. It is a literary and dramatic method where the audience or reader is more knowledgeable than the characters they are watching. This technique frequently results in tragedy because the audience interprets the characters' actions differently than the actors or characters do.

The story of Hester Prynne, who fights to build a new life of repentance and dignity after having a daughter with a man she is not married to, is set in the Puritan Massachusetts Bay Colony during the years 1642 to 1649.

This study found that the primary heroine of "The Scarlet Letter," Hester Prynne, instilled five types of moral values: bravery, honesty, love and devotion, responsibility, and kindness.

In this case, when Chillingworth finds out that his wife has been pregnant by another man, he becomes driven by a desire for vengeance. He presses her further about the father and demands that she identify him, but she refuses. This is an example of irony in chapter 1.
