The events are plotted in sequence in this manner.

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, a Gothic novel by Scottish novelist Robert Louis Stevenson, was originally published in 1886. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and simply Jekyll and Hyde are other names for the play. The London lawyer Gabriel John Utterson, who investigates a sequence of strange episodes involving his old friend Dr. Henry Jekyll and a vicious thug named Edward Hyde, is the protagonist of the novella. Towards the end of the novella, Jekyll and Hyde's identities are made known. Jekyll employed an unidentified chemical concoction to transform into Hyde in order to sate his most sinister urges.

I am a little bit confused by what this sentence means. (highlighted one in blue)
Lorico [155]
He did not allow himself to be diverted

diverted= changed, in another direction

from his schemes

schemes= ideas, plans

by considerations

considerations= something thought about, a decision that you don't have to take but may want to.

of mercantile gain.

mercantile= things, possessions, money

He didn't want himself to think differently about his plans for a decision that may lead him to gain possessions, things, etc.

I hope this helps!

Complete the paragraph with the correct transitional words.
lord [1]

The correct answers are:

A: Eventually

 • Eventually means "in the course of time." So after a long period of time, the plasma reduced its temperature and atoms were created.

B: Then

 • In this case, the meaning of then is "consequently." Atoms appeared, so the first stars and galaxies formed.

C: However

 • However introduces a contrast to what has been said previously. Even though scientists know about how atoms formed, they do know how the first stars and galaxies originated.
