Where does osmosis occur in plants?

Geography

denis-greek [22]1 year ago

Osmosis is responsible for the soil's ability to absorb water. The concentration is greater in the plant roots than in the soil. Water enters the roots as a result. Osmosis has an impact on the plant's guard cells as well.

In plants, water enters the root cells through osmosis and travels through xylem vessels to the leaves. Hydrogen bonding causes the water molecules inside the xylem cells to be strongly attracted to one another (this is called cohesion). It is a technique that enables plants to retain water despite ongoing water loss from transpiration. Water diffusion from cell to cell is regulated by this process. Osmosis causes cell turgor, which controls how plants and plant components move.

Fruit and sporangia dehiscence is also governed by osmosis. Osmosis is a method through which plant cells continue to contain water despite the ongoing loss of water to the atmosphere.

B. What ultimately fuels the water cycle? (4 points)
natali 33 [55]

Answer:

The sun

Explanation:

The sun drives the water cycle. The sun evaporates water from the oceans, seas, lakes and other bodies of water and also from plants through the process of transpiration. The evaporated water then forms into clouds and when it gains enough mass it falls back to Earth. This is a closed system so that means that this is the same amount of water that has always been present on Earth.

What are common tectonic settings associated with volcanic activity?
algol [13]

Answer: Mantle plumes, Continental rifts, island arcs, and Continental arcs

Explanation:

Mantle plume is the mechanism of convecting abnormally hot rocks within the Earth's mantle. The plume head partly melts on reaching shallow depths, the plume is often invoked as the cause of volcanic hotspots.

Continental rift refers to the belt of the continental lithosphere where the extensional deformation (rifting) is taking place. Continental rift zones have important consequences and geological features, and if the rifting is successful, leads to the formation of new ocean basins.

Island arcs are long chains of active volcanoes with intense seismic activity found along convergent tectonic plate boundaries. Most island arcs originate on oceanic crust and have resulted from the descent of the lithosphere into the mantle along the subduction zone. They are the principal way by which continental growth is achieved.

Continental arc is a type of volcanic arc occurring as an "arc-shape" topographic high region along a continental margin. The continental arc is formed where two tectonic plates meet, and where one plate has continental crust and the other plate has an oceanic crust along the line of plate convergence, and a subduction zone develops.
