Rocks known as sedimentary rocks are created by the accumulation or deposition of mineral or organic particles at the Earth's surface, followed by cementation. The process of these particles settling in one location is known as sedimentation. Sediment is a general term for the tiny pieces that make up sedimentary rocks.
