Identify the author’s purpose in “The Immigrant Contribution.” Then analyze how the author uses specific words and phrases to ac

hieve his purpose.
Use these guidelines in your writing or discussion.
• Identify the author’s main purpose for writing the text. Is his purpose to inform, explain, entertain, persuade, or a combination of these purposes?
• How do the quotes from Oscar Handlin at the beginning of the text and the quote from Herman Melville at the end of the text support the author’s purpose?
• What specific words and phrases does the author use to help the reader understand his purpose?

My answer is:
The "The Immigrant Contribution" essay by Kennedy focuses on how immigrants have impacted our nation. Kennedy believed that immigration is a fundamental aspect of American civilization and a representation of its beliefs. The text’s purpose is to persuade and inform the reader. The quotes mentioned at the beginning of the text and in the end, have significantly affected the text. The quotes by Herman Melville and by Oscar Handlin support the author's purpose by proving that immigrants are the core of America, and immigrants built the foundation of the country and it would be nothing without it. To make his point clear to the reader, the author employed a variety of phrases and words. The author used phrases like "if you desire to be truly happy and independent, then come here.", and he referred to the entire nation by using pronouns like "we."

Answer:

Third person point of view.

Explanation:

A narrator who knows and focuses attention equally on the thoughts, actions and feelings of all the characters present is known as the omniscient narrator and this type of narrator uses the third person point of view to tell the story.

The third person point of view offers a panaromic view of the work and reveals everything about all the characters, from their thoughts, as well as their actions.
