An individual is unique and does not speak for or represent anything other than themselves. " this statement is an argument against stereotypes.

Stereotypes are over-generalized notions of a group of people. Stereotypes could be based on class, country, state, education, profession, gender, race, and religion. It refers to associating some sort of characteristics with a particular group with an assumption that every member of that group will possess the same characteristics.

Stereotypes are often used to generalize people and put less effort into thinking. It leads to categorization and a feeling of 'them' and 'us' which creates a division of ingroups and outgroups. Stereotypes could lead to extreme hatred against a group. For instance, the Holocaust in Nazi Germany can be traced back to the stereotypes against the Jews.
