Albert Einstein, a Jew but not an Israeli citizen, was offered the presidency in 1952 but turned it down, affirming.

“I don't have the natural talent or the action to deal well with people,” Einstein wrote in response to a letter offering to be president of Israel. January 12, 2017 The first president of Israel, Chaim Weizmann, said that Einstein was "the greatest living Jew." Israel received its statehood and, later, when the first president died in 1952, Israel's ambassador to the United States. The Foreign Office was asked to help find candidates and ambassadors to the United States.
