The Central Labor Union promotes the labor day in the United States.

Central Labor Union of New York, Brooklyn, and New Jersey was an early trade union organization that later splintered into several locals that are now AFL-CIO members. The CLU was founded nearly two decades before the consolidation of New York City (1897), and it is best known as the organization that created the American Labor Day holiday. It was founded in 1867 and later spread to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The union was founded on Marxist principles and was the first integrated labor union in the United States.

The first Labor Day holiday was observed on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City, according to the Central Labor Union's plans. On September 5, 1883, the Central Labor Union observed its second Labor Day holiday.

What was the reason for the fight Douglas found himself in and what happened to him physically?
Gnoma [55]

If you're talking about Frederick Douglass, than this would be accurate. Douglass got into the fight because he was angry that he was being treated like an animal and he didn't want to be anymore. Though he did attack Covey, Covey never whipped or hurt Douglass again. Basically, nothing happened to him physically, other than maybe a few scratches here and there.

What underlying factors caused the civil war
Nesterboy [21]
The economics or slavery and political control were the main causes of the civil war. Southern states wanted the ability to abolish federal laws that they did not support. Also, southern states wanted to take slaves west, but the north did not want the slave trade to expand. The southern states also felt they had lost all influence in the government after Lincoln was elected without a single electoral vote from the south.
