The correct answer is B.

When Elie Wiesel and his father arrived at Birkenau, they encountered for the first time the crematoria.

Upon arrival, another prisoner pointed to the flames and explained that in Auschwitz people were being cremated, and that they would probably share the same destiny.

Officers were splitting people into two lines and those that were sent to the left were due to the crematorium. Both Elie and his father where sent to the left and, as they walked, they saw two pits burning with large flames, one was for babies and children, and the other one was for adults.

At the last minute, Elie and his father were sent to the line on the right, and were spared from the fire, but Wiesel explained that this image has never truly left him.

Why did the police and the housing authority forbid integrated activities and the city's recreation centers?
Dovator [93]

This prohibition was due to racism and a strong policy of racial segregation.

We can arrive at this answer because:

 • The police and housing authority have established racist and prejudiced policies to ban integrated activities and recreation centers in the city.
 • This happened because the integrated activities allowed the participation of white and black people in the same activity.
 • The recreation centers also allowed the participation of black and white people at any time.
 • However, the population, mainly white, decided that this was incorrect and asked for measures to be taken so that they could carry out their activities without the presence of black people.
 • For this reason, as a way of establishing racial segregation, integrated activities and recreation centers were banned or limited through a strong segregation policy.

This question is about "The Color of Law" which shows how the racial segregation policy has taken over the country.

Do you think "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" is an example of realism, even though Bierce employs romantic techniques in the
mojhsa [17]

Answer:

Yes, "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" is an example of realism, even though Bierce employs romantic techniques in the story.

Explanation:

Romanticism had among its characteristics the glorification of war and heroism. At first, that seems to be what Ambrose Bierce will do in his short story "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge". The main character, Peyton Farquhar, is tricked into trying to burn a bridge that would allow Union soldiers to cross. Farquhar is a Confederacy supporter. He ends up being caught as a traitor and, when he is about to be hanged, he escapes. So far, Romanticism has prevailed.

However, Bierce is only deceiving readers. We are led to believe Farquhar has escaped, that the noose broke, and he found himself swimming in the creek, dodging bullets, free to return home. We are soon disappointed, however, as it is revealed that it was all his imagination - or even a hallucination - in the brief moments it took Farquhar to die. The ending of the story is based on Realism. Far from being romanticized, it describes how horrid and gruesome death and war are, and how heroism is not always rewarded:

Peyton Farquhar was dead; his body, with a broken neck, swung gently from side to side beneath the timbers of the Owl Creek bridge.
