Megafires are high-intensity, uncontrollable fires that cover more than firestorms.

Storms occur when heat from wildfires creates its own wind system. This phenomenon can lead to very strange weather effects. An active Zaca Fire flame front in Santa Barbara County, California. This 2007 fire was one of the largest on record in California.

  • A very intense and destructive fire, usually accompanied by strong winds. Roose's house and garden were destroyed in a 1991 Auckland storm.
  • Under certain conditions, many individual fires from a nuclear explosion can coalesce into one large fire known as a "firestorm". The combination of many small fires fans the flames by heating the air and forcing strong winds to blow inward toward the fire.
