When using note cards to organize your data, try using different colors to differentiate between direct quotes and paraphrased text. Also, try recording all major ideas from various sources on separate note cards. Include complete publication information on the note cards and use as many note cards as necessary.

What are Note Cards?

Randall Trigg, Frank Halasz, and Thomas Moran created the hypertext-based personal knowledge base system known as NoteCards at Xerox PARC in 1984. After Trigg's groundbreaking 1983 Ph.D. thesis on hypertext at the University of Maryland College Park, Notecards was created.

Four fundamental types of objects

  1. notecards
  2. links
  3. browser cards
  4. and fireboxes

were the foundation upon which Notecards was created. Each window is akin to a cue card; despite the fact that window sizes can vary, contents cannot scroll. Maps can be accessed locally and globally through browsers. There are more than 40 distinct nodes that support different media types.

  • A semantic network made up of notecards joined together by typed links is the fundamental building block of NoteCards.
  • Each notecard has an infinite amount of information on it that may be changed or added to at any time.
  • To depict binary connections between cards, links are employed. Browsers and FileBoxes, two specialised card kinds offered by NoteCards, assist the user in managing networks of cards and linkages.
