A short-wave radio antenna is supported by two guy wires, 150 ft and 180 ft long. Each wire is attached to the top of the antenn

a and anchored to the ground at two anchor points on opposite sides of the antenna. The shorter wire makes an angle of 65° with the ground. How far apart are the anchor points? (Round your answer to the nearest foot.)

The distance between the anchor points of the two guy wires holding radio antenna is 181 feet (to the nearest foot)

<h3>How to determine the distance between the two anchor points of the guy wire</h3>

The problem will be solved using SOH CAH TOA

let the distance between the 150 ft long guy wire and the radio antenna be x

let the distance between the 180 ft long guy wire and the radio antenna be y

cos 65° = x / 150

x = cos 65° * 150

x = 63.39 ft

The height of the antenna

sin 65° = height of antenna / 150

height of antenna = sin 65 * 150

height of antenna = 135.95

using Pythagoras theorem

(length of guy wire)² = (height of the antenna)² + (anchor distance)²

(anchor distance)² = 180² - 135.95²

anchor distance = √(180² - 135.95²)

anchor distance = 117.97

The anchor points distance apart

= 63.39 + 117.97

= 181 (to the nearest foot)

Match the pairs of variables with the type of relationship they show.

"-the time people spend at work and the number of friends they have"
would be "causation"; because the more/less time someone spends at work is implied to be the *cause* of their number of friends.

"-the length of a person's hair and his or her math skills"
would be "no relationship" seeing as there's nothing that relates these two variables that could have an affect on the outcome of one or the other.

PLEASE HELP<br>L has y-intercept (0,5) and is perpendicular to the line with equation y=1/3x+1
marin [14]

Answer:

y=-3x+5

Explanation:

Given a line L such that:

• L has y-intercept (0,5); and

,

• L is perpendicular to the line with equation y=(1/3)x+1.

We want to find the equation of the line in the slope-intercept form.

The slope-intercept form of the equation of a straight line is given as:

\begin{equation} y=mx+b\text{ where }\begin{cases}m={slope} \\ b={y-intercept}\end{cases} \end{equation}

Comparing the given line with the form above:

y=\frac{1}{3}x+1\implies Slope,m=\frac{1}{3}

Next, we find the slope of the perpendicular line L.

• Two lines are perpendicular if the product of their slopes is -1.

Let the slope of L = m1.

Since L and y=(1/3)x+1 are perpendicular, therefore:

\begin{gathered} m_1\times\frac{1}{3}=-1 \\ \implies Slope\text{ of line L}=-3 \end{gathered}

The y-intercept of L is at (0,5), therefore:

y-intercept,b=5

Substitute the slope, m=-3, and y-intercept, b=5 into the slope-intercept form.

\begin{gathered} y=mx+b \\ y=-3x+5 \end{gathered}

The equation of line L is:

y=-3x+5
