The continental flow speculation turned into advanced in the early part of the 20th century, in general by way of Alfred Wegener.

Wegener said that continents move around on this planet's floor and that they had been as soon joined together as a single supercontinent.

Alfred Wegener first provided his hypothesis to the German Geological Society on 6 January 1912. His speculation was that the continents had once fashioned a single landmass, known as Pangaea, before breaking apart and drifting to their gift places.
