Leonardo da Vinci made significant scientific discoveries as a result of his rapid thinking and good sight, but he never publicized his findings. He was known for his insatiable curiosity, which he had about everything and pursued no other reason than pure enjoyment. It's how he trained himself to become brilliant and pushed himself.
