Gregor begins physically alienated from his family as they shut him away, but in this instance Gregor due to his impotence, degraded self image as a result of his metamorphosis and his families shame about what happened he chooses to isolate himself. He feels he doesn't belong with his family anymore despite the fact that they are starting to try and accept him and allow him to be apart of the family.
