Approximately 75% of the world's cotton supply came from the southern United States.

Cotton is best grown in the American South because of its long, hot summers and excellent soils in river valleys. 75% of the world's cotton was produced by Southern plantations by 1860, with shipments coming from cities like Houston, New Orleans, Charleston, Mobile, Savannah, and a few other countries.

Purchases from Europe and New England increased dramatically, from 720,000 bales in 1830 to 2.85 million in 1850 to over 5 million in 1860. After the tobacco market collapsed in the late 18th century, the manufacturing of cotton incentive to take in slavery. More slaves were required to harvest the crop as more cotton was grown. On the eve of the American Civil War in 1860, cotton made up about 60% of all exports from the United States, with an annual value of close to $200 million.

What were the main ideas that the Constitution borrowed from these other documents?...
Nitella [24]

Answer:

Both have important predecessors—our Constitution was influenced by the Magna Carta and the English Bill of Rights of 1689, and the Declaration by John Locke's writings on the consent of the governed and by a document close to home for Thomas Jefferson, the draft version by George Mason of Virginia's Declaration

Compare and contrast capitalism, socialism, communism, and anarchism. Who supported each of these groups?
photoshop1234 [79]

Socialism and communism are alike in that both are systems of production for use based on public ownership of the means of production and centralized planning. Socialism grows directly out of capitalism; it is the first form of the new society. Communism is a further development or "higher stage" of socialism like communism, calls for putting the major means of production in the hands of the people, either directly or through the government. Socialists differ from communists in that they do not believe that the workers will overthrow capitalists suddenly and violently.

Why was the kennedy administration nicknamed camelot
Bingel [31]
The idea of "Camelot" called to mind an ideal sort of place, almost like a fairy tale existence.  The original "Camelot," of course, was the court of the fabled King Arthur of England and his Knights of the Round Table.

Jackie Kennedy, the wife and then widow of President John F. Kennedy, is the one who originated the reference to the Kennedy time in the White House as "Camelot."  She made that reference in an interview for LIFE magazine after her husband's assassination.  She was trying to call to mind the high, idealistic principles of King Arthur of Camelot, comparing that to what her husband JFK had wanted to accomplish as president.
