The Compare and contrast of Mr. Bramble's attitude before and after Harold's birth is that:

 • Mr. Bramble, sometimes known as "Young Porky," is a well-known boxer. He has big expectations for his career before the birth of his son. Then, he and his wife come to the conclusion that Harold would feel humiliated and embarrassed about being the son of a boxer.

Why did Mr. Bramble's conceal his occupation?

Famous boxer Mr. Bramble keeps his line of work a secret from his intelligent kid out of concern that he could grow to despise him. He chooses to give up boxing.

Harold had not been informed by the Brambles that his father was a professional boxer. They feared Harold would be hurt and resentful of the truth. They therefore misled him by saying that his father was a touring salesperson for a company.

When Harold expresses resentment at not having the glory and honor of being a great boxer's son, they are pleasantly surprised. This demonstrates that his parents were wrong to devalue a respectable vocation. Despite being a violent and deadly sport, boxing is a respectable career like any other.

All of the above can help to develop a character. A reader will have a clearer image of the character if they are given a description of what the character looks like. We also know who they are as individuals if we know their thoughts or hear them speak. Other characters' opinions of this character can also help to develop them, because we learn who the character is through other peoples' eyes. Hope this helps.
