Ending a sentence by raising the pitch of your voice indicates a question, and is part of the intonation (high rise pitch) component of language.

The high rise pitch indicates a high degree of certainty in the meaning. In yes/no questions, it can be seen as half interaction. Since it indicates uncertainty and incompletion, it generally ends in a high rise pitch.

It is so because intonation is used in language to express/shows the variations in the various pitches. In a language such as, English it is usually accompanied by the rhythm to convey the meaning of the words.

The rising intonation(high rise pitch) describes how the pitch/voice rises at the end of a sentence.
