Traditionally we live in a patriarchal society where the focus is put on men. Going back to when the written word was first invented, it was men who controlled the language and therefore men who controlled the knowledge that was released and spread.

The second amendment states "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." So the right to bear arms is so we can have a well organized militia.
