I believe primary source would be more helpful.
Primary source refers to the information that taken from the people who were directly involved in the events.
Since the topic is how it felt to be a soldier in korean war, someone who do not experience it directly wouldn't be able to clearly depict the true struggles and challenges compared to someone who actually experienced it.
