The Church was a very important part of the people's lives during this time in history. People paid tithes to the Church and wealthy people were obligated to donate money. The Church educated the masses who were too poor and regulated what the masses knew and learnt. Books that went against the Church's beliefs were not allowed, and doctors who practiced medicine differently ( not Hippocrates and Galen ) did not get any business.
Elizabethan Catholics believed that Church Services and the Bible should be in Latin, as it had been for 1000 years Elizabethan Protestants believed that Church Services and the Bible should be in the language of the people so that the ordinary people could understand them
