In both instances, there is a 20% chance that he gets a striped sweater. 2 x 2/10 is not the same as 2/10 x 2/10. You have to do 2/10 x 2/10, because there's a 20% chance he gets it first, and then 20% he gets it again. The chance he gets it twice in a row should be 4 out of 100 or 1 out of 25. A very slim chance

The probability to select a stripped shirt is 2/10
He replaced it, then the number of shirts is the same & the probability is the same.
But here there is a conditional probability
1st selection P(2/10)
AND
2nd selection P(2/10) so P( stripped shirt AND another stripped shirt)
=2/10 x2/10= 4/100 =1/25

The sum of Cathy's and Tony's ages is 65. Eight years ago, Cathy's age was 2/5 of Tony's age. How old are they now?
Viktor [21]
Let
x------> Cathy's<span> ages
</span>y------> Tony's ages

we know that
x+y=65-----> x=65-y-----> equation 1
y-8=(2/5)*(x-8)-----> equation 2

substitute equation 1 in equation 2
y-8=(2/5)*(65-y-8)---> y-8=22.8-0.4y----> y+0.4y=22.8+8
1.4y=30.8-----> y=22
x=65-y-----> x=65-22----> x=43

the answer is
Cathy's ages is 43 years
Tony's ages is 22 years

Find all rational roots for p(x)=0
Olenka [21]

Answer

C. (5/2, -1/3)

Step by step explanation

Here we use the rational root theorem.

The possible roots are

+1, +3, +5, +15, +1/2, +3/2, +5/2, +15/2, +1/3, +5/3, +1/6 and +5/6

We have to use the synthetic division to find the correct root of this function.

Here the roots are 5/2 and -1/3

Others are not roots of this function.

Let's check x = 5/2  with synthetic division.

5/2)   6   -13   13   -39   -15

-               15    5    45    15

           --------------------------

             6     2   18     6     0

Similarly x = -1/3 is also root of this function.

Answer: C. (5/2, -1/3)

What's the conversion factor used to convert inches to yards
larisa [96]
We have to determine the conversion factor used to convert inches to yards. Yard and inch are US and British customary length units. We know that 1 yard = 3 feet = 36 inches. So we just have to divide 1 by 36. 1 : 36 = 0.027777.... ( more accurate with more decimal digits ). For example: 54 yards = 54 * 0.0277777 = 1.4999958 ( approx. 1.5 ). Answer: The conversion factor is: 0.0277777... <span> </span>
