(not sure if this is exactly related to lunch, but...). The effects of the Great Depression on schools began in 1932. It lead to budget cutbacks and lower teacher salaries. (you can say how the cutbacks didn’t provide much money for schools to be able to buy quality lunch for the students)
Readers challenge a writer's text when they question the writer's opinions. It is normal that your opinion is not the same as the author's, and it should be like that, you should always question and think about everything.
