According to thorsten sellin,<u> "crime"</u> norms are found in the law; <u>"conduct" </u>norms may directly conflict with them.

Crime is characterized as conduct which is disallowed by the law and for which some discipline is prescribed. Norms are rules characterizing regular circumstances you can hope to experience and the practices expected in those circumstances. Each general public has standards as well as has sanctions methods for constraining individuals to comply with these standards through reward or discipline.

Conduct norms are standards (rules authorized by the general public) that change from gathering to gathering. Accordingly, unique social orders authorize distinctive lead standards. There are additionally all inclusive classes, which rise above the distinctions among social orders and apply to everybody in view of the innate qualities that accompany the development of a general public.

<h2>Further explanation </h2>

Culture Conflict Theory

This theory was put forward by Thorsten Sellin, in his book Culture Conflict and Crime (1938). The main focus of this theory refers to the basic criminal norms and patterns of thought/attitude. Thorsten Sellin agreed that the purpose of norms governs human life every day.

Norms are rules that reflect the attitudes of one group to another. Consequently, each group has norms and every norm in every other group allows for conflict. Each individual may agree that he/she acts as a villain through the norm agreed to by the group if the norm of the group is contrary to the dominant norm in society. Agreement on this rationalization is the most important part to distinguish between the criminal and non-criminal where one respects the differences in the will/nature of norms.

Very contrary to criminal norms, moral norms are rules of life that originate from human conscience. This norm determines what is good and what is bad. Ethical norms encourage people to do good and prevent people from doing bad things because they are against normal human conscience.

<em>Examples of moral norms: </em>

  • Don't steal other people's belongings.
  • Don't hurt your fellow humans.
  • Honor your neighbor.
  • Be honest.

sanctions obtained if it violates this moral norm that is the human feeling that the consequences will lead to regret.
