Christ Figures

As befits its religious preoccupation, the novel presents two instances of a sacrificial death linked to Christ’s. Eva and Tom, the two most morally perfect characters in the novel, both die in atmospheres of charged religious belief, and both die, in a sense, to achieve salvation for others. Eva’s death leads to St. Clare’s deathbed conversion to Christianity and to Ophelia’s recognition and denunciation of her own racial prejudice. Tom’s death leads to Emmeline and Cassy’s escape and to the freedom of all the slaves on the Shelby farm in Kentucky. Both Tom and Eva are explicitly compared to Christ: Ophelia says that Eva resembles Jesus, and the narrator depicts Tom carrying his cross behind Jesus. This motif of Christ-like sacrifice and death enables Stowe to underscore her basic point about Christian goodness while holding up models of moral perfection for her reader to emulate. It also enables her to create the emotionally charged, sentimental death scenes popular in nineteenth-century literature.

Read lines 85-86 from the poem "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" and answer the question. And I have seen the eternal Footma
nadezda [96]

Answer:

Gloomy and Decay

Explanation:

In this poem, T S Eliot presents disillusion and physical inertia of modern life. The eternal footman is someone who waits while holding the coats of visitors. But this footman may be doom or death and may be the giver may nor return. Hence, the footman snickers, which is a half-suppressed, scornful laugh, rather than a normal laugh since he knows the person whom coat he is holding may not return back as in the case of a visitor who enters a building for entertainment or work.

kodGreya [7K]
The literary device used in this sentence is extended metaphor.

The phrase “spends a lot of time talking about the very strong wine” indicates that the words used to refer to the object are not literally applicable to the action performed.

What is the effect of Morrison naming the brand of vacuum cleaner? In the work you do, the person you are
victus00 [196]

Answer:

When Morrison named the Hoover's vacuum cleaner, it showed the difference between what was traditional to him about all vacuum cleaners and what he now sees in the affluent household.

Explanation:

Hoover's vacuum cleaner was commercially dominant at the time and common among most households. Morrison knew the vacuum cleaner to work by heating. However, that was not the case with what he now sees in the house where he is to work.

This shows the difference in social classes as the rich household used more advanced technologies.
