Because most people prefer to believe that investing your time into someone else's life you may get one sided stories and false truths maybe even fabricated tales. And it's not uncommon for journalists to use heavy propaganda and false statements and facts. And the fact that they follow around a certain person's life they see things that said person probably didn't give permission for them to see.

-it would take days to get to the other side of this jungle of vines, hedges, shrubs, and weeds. -emma was determined to find the way through this maze of pathways, tunnels, and bridges.

A labyrinth is a large structure made of various twists, turns, dead ends, and other obstacles that make it difficult for one to travel from one end to the other. Jungles and mazes are also two types of places that are difficult for people to travel through because of various obstacles or incorrect paths. The second sentence describes how the jungles will be hard to travel through. The third sentence also uses the word maze and Emma's determination to "find" her way through it shows it's difficulty as well. The two synonyms for labyrinth are jungle and maze.
