Alfred Wegener's idea of continental drift was rejected mainly because at that time, he could not explain the forces that caused the continents to drift. During this time, scientists believed that the earth was a solid and immovable object. He proposed it could be the centrifugal force caused by the Earth's rotation or the gravitational pull of the sun and the moon but both were immediately rejected.

How do the Himalayas affect culture and climate?
kow [346]

The Himalayas have a profound effect on the climate of the Indian subcontinent and the Tibetan Plateau. They prevent frigid, dry winds from blowing south into the subcontinent, which keeps South Asia much warmer than corresponding temperate regions in the other continents.
