They explored and colonized the new world for profit. There was loads of wood for shipbuilding, gold, and other materials found later (such as tobacco).
Basically, the British Company army won so hard that the Mughals were completely defeated and went into hiding since they became extremely poor now. The whole valley around the Ganges river was left as an open territory because of this which the Company could control, especially since the Shah decided to ally himself with them.
