Answer:

On one side, purpose of Columbus journey was to find sea route to Asia, or better to say India and China, while Magellan wanted to sail across the whole globe, thus showing that the Earth is not flat. At the end Columbus reached new continent, unknown to Europeans, while Magellan expedition managed to circle the whole globe.

Explanation:

During his first journey in 1492. Columbus reached shores of a new continent, but he still believed he reached India. Later on, it was established that this is a newly discovered continent. On the other side, Magellan during his three year expedition proved a theory is not flat. Magellan died during the journey, but his legacy continued to live.
