Here are three different factors that influenced chattel slavery:

1) Need for cheap labor-
The need for cheap labor allowed for plantation owners to make a significant profit off their goods.

2) Desire for cotton- During the early to mid 19th century, the US and Europe were constantly in need of cotton due to the high amount of uses it has. This supported slavery, as plantation owners needed to continue to make a large amount of cotton to be sold.

3) Racism- The systematic belief that whites were superior to blacks helped in justifying slavery in the US for over a century.

How did the political and religious ideas of the byzantine empire compare with the western empire?
Tom [10]

I believe the answer is: B.The Byzantine emperor was considered to be the highest political and religious figure. In the Western Empire, the highest political and religious figures were two different people.

Even though it's true that the priests had a really huge influence in western politic, At that time period the highest political figures and religious figures still divided between the emperor and the High Priest. The priest's involvement in political stance limited only to being a direct advisory to the Emperor.
