I cannot see the excerpt that you have but what I do know about Sir Chamberlain was "appeasement."  Chamberlain had appeased Hitler with his aggressive diplomatic views and outlooks of territorial expansions. Chamberlain and Hitler had met during the Munich Conference which allowed Hitler a free hand in the Sudetenland in exchange for no more territorial expansion. Chamberlain had convinced himself that Hitler finally settled for peace through negotiations and brought, "peace in our time." Shortly after, Hitler had invaded the rest of Czechoslovakia.
