Pejoration is the term given  to the process of deterioration or at the stage of its worst while amelioration is the process of improving or making something better. Therefore, pejoration is the absolute opposite of amelioration.  In linguistics, pejoration refers to the word/words that usually gain/s or receive/s negative connotations. On the other hand, the term amelioration is usually confused with the term to alleviate but it should be noted that  amelioration means to improve while alleviate is to make a feeling bearable.
