The socioeconomic roots of the international drug trade are based in the poverty and inequality of the people in different classes. The majority of the people lived in very poor conditions, often being without job, and seeing how only few control most of the wealth. This has resulted in anger and despise, and some people started to use alternative methods to make profit, the drug trade. The people that were in charge of the drug trade became very rich indeed, but they also employed most of the poor people to work for them and gave them descent amount of money. Also, the drug lords were taking care of their communities, despite also being cruel, and they were building houses, schools, hospitals, all which was greeted by the poor people forgotten by their leaders, so the drug trade became very strong as it had its socioeconomic roots in the ordinary people.
