Answer & Explanation:

This excerpt is from George Orwell's Animal Farm.

An analogy is a comparison of two words on one side to two words on another side. An analogy has to be consistent. So if one side says dead is to alive the other must match, with two words that are opposites, or antonyms. Clouded and vague are synonyms, which means that arable and fertile also have to be synonyms. Since the reader knows fertile means good land to plant crops on, we can say that arable means fertile, or good for planting crops on.
