Is it necessary to know whether the five color morphs are unique species to study ecological interactions?

The ecological interaction among the species in an environment is the ecological interaction. Some orchid plants lack chlorophyll and hence cannot undergo photosynthesis hence are parasitic. So without doing any scientific experimentation, the observation made on the basis of color it was considered that there were five different species. In order for a definite conclusion, the host and orchid plants were examined and if it was found that the host plant was different in the different color morphed plant the species was concluded to be a unique species.
