How does the author react when a white man addresses her in a loud voice?

English

Answer:

She stares him down without saying a word and then holds the baby tighter.

Explanation:

The author expresses a mighty act by not reacting harshly, even though she was addressed in a loud voice. Also though the action was not intended as a soft one, she still takes it light and with kindness. Therefore based on the common understanding, this was an act of opression, and the chances of experiencing peace were much far away. Paley took it high by distancing herself from the hands of the whites and their responsibilities because of increased racism.
