Read the excerpt from "The New Marvel in Photography" by H. J. W. Dam. In all the history of scientific discovery there has neve

r been, perhaps, so general, rapid, and dramatic an effect wrought on the scientific centres of Europe as has followed, in the past four weeks, upon an announcement made to the Würzburg Physico-Medical Society, at their December meeting, by Professor William Konrad Röntgen, professor of physics at the Royal University of Würzburg. The first news which reached London was by telegraph from Vienna to the effect that a Professor Röntgen, until then the possessor of only a local fame in the town mentioned, had discovered a new kind of light, which penetrated and photographed through everything. This news was received with a mild interest, some amusement, and much incredulity; and a week passed. Then, by mail and telegraph, came daily clear indications of the stir which the discovery was making in all the great line of universities between Vienna and Berlin. Then Röntgen's own report arrived, so cool, so business-like, and so truly scientific in character, that it left no doubt either of the truth or of the great importance of the preceding reports. . . . Exactly what kind of a force Professor Röntgen has discovered he does not know. As will be seen below, he declines to call it a new kind of light, or a new form of electricity. He has given it the name of the X rays. The central idea of this excerpt is developed through scientific proof. cautious excitement. medical facts. stated disbelief.

Answer:

Cautious excitement.

Explanation:

H. J. W. Dam's book <em>The New Marvel in Photography</em> is based on the newly invented form of photography, or in simple terms, the x-ray method. This medical as well as scientific method of dealing with any form of disease or complications in the human body. The discovery of this kind of photography that <em>"penetrated and photographed through everything"</em> was initially received with much less excitement. But with the days passing, it became more and more talked about, <em>"the truth or of the great importance"</em> of the discovery becoming more fascinating to everyone. With a cautious yet interesting and captivating response, the passage reveals the receiving reaction of the discovery.

Thus, the correct answer is the second option.

What are some examples of synecdoche in The Great Gatsby?
Valentin [98]

What about Owl-Eyes who acts as the enhancement to the occular imagery in F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby"?

Having no real name, this character of synedoche acts as the eyes that perceive the truth about Gatsby.  For instance, when he is in the library at Gatsby's house during a party, he is surprised that the books are real and bound in real leather with actual pages; he has suspected that they, like Gatsby, would merely have the appearance of being genuine.  Also, in the last chapter, Owl Eyes is the only one of the party group to attend the funeral for Gatsby because, as he come "splashing" after Nick and Mr. Gatsby, he wants to meet the father and learn more about Jay Gatsby.  When he talks to Nick after the funeral, he remarks,

<span>'I couldn't get to the house.''Neither could anybody else.''Go on'...Why my God! they used to go there by the hundreds.'
</span>

Like the billboard that sits overlooking the Valley of Ashes, Owl Eyes sees and understands all.

What is Risky behavior
Triss [41]

risky behavior can be seen as different things, theres a difference then risky,brave, and just plain dxmb, risky is in-between brave and dxmb, risky means theres well, a risk to it.

risky things would include dr0nk driving, texting while driving, riding a bike without a helmet, people who do risky things tend to know what will happen if they do it but they don't care, they like the rush of adrenaline they get from it. some risky behavior is just flat out dxmb and others not so much.

hope this helps :)
