The Rule of Three is a simplified version of a particular form of cross-multiplication that can be found in history. This version could be taught to students by rote and it was considered the height of Colonial math education.

So it is not a number of paragraphs in an essay, nor the number of pieces supporting an evidence and for sure not a number of counterarguments on an essay. The Rule of Three is mathematical and none of those options are. Not really.
