I assume I am the right person to answer this question since I am currently a senior in undergrad. In a way I have always known the career path I would take, and this includes major. I was lucky to have several major interests instead of one, so I have never felt limited. But still I had to simplify and choose one major, by the way you can double major or choose to graduate with a major and minor (which is what I am choosing to do). Here are the advantages and disadvantages of selecting a major before college ( which I would advise):
- One advantage is that you will be ready to declare a major when filling out your college applications instead of declaring a undeclared major, and in my opinion it makes you look more decided and prepared to move forward as a student.
- Second advantage: Time wise you will know how to navigate to meet and fulfill all major requirements.
- Third advantage: You will be committed to specific career and educational goals instead of making them in the middle of your 4 years.
- Fourth advantage: By already knowing your career and educational path for the long term distractions and obstacles seem less devastating.

Disadvantages
- You might change your mind and decide you no longer want to major in this area, which isn’t a problem at all because all colleges allow you to change your major. The main disadvantage occurs if you decide to change your major at the last minute and have already completed a great number of required courses.

- Selecting your major before college is your choice, and while neither approach is wrong or right I advise you to go ahead and select at least 3 potential majors while still in high school or before college begins, therefore by the time college begins you will be decided instead of undecided.

I hope I was able to help you, and I would love to assist further if necessary. Happy New Year’s!

Nikitich [7]
A) (Sentence 2) The freighter Florentine, 320 miles northeast of the Hawaiian Island of Hilo was lumbering along at about 15 knots when a garbled message came in over the radio.

This is the sentence that has a missing necessary comma. Another comma should have been placed after the word Hilo and before was.

The commas in this sentence enclosed nonessential information.

The freighter Florentine, 320 miles northeast of the Hawaiian Island of Hilo, was lumbering along at about 15 knots when a garbled message came in over the radio.

Nonessential information means that if the said phrase is deleted from the sentence, then the sentence would still convey the same message.

The freighter Florentine was lumbering along at about 15 knots when a garbled message came in over the radio.
