The theory of deterrence is a term related to the use of nuclear weapons, which developed and gained pre-eminence as a military strategy during the Cold War. It gained a special status during this time as an inferior nuclear force, because of its extreme destructive power (provided that its forces were protected against a surprise attack), could deter a more powerful adversary. Deterrence is a strategy that tries to stop an opponent from initiating an action, or to carry out something that the other state does not want.

What is the difference between a direct democracy and indirect (Representative) democracy? Which one is the US?
Firdavs [7]

Explanation:

Representative democracy is a form of democracy in which people vote for representatives who then vote on policy initiatives as opposed to a direct democracy, a form of democracy in which people vote on policy initiatives directly.

Direct democracy was not what the framers of the United States Constitution envisioned for the nation. They saw a danger in tyranny of the majority. As a result, they advocated a representative democracy in the form of a constitutional republic over a direct democracy

Why did the russian burn the feilds and slaughter live stock while fighting the french?
Lelu [443]
It's a thing called "scorched earth". the russians would rather burn their fields and slaughter livestock to the ground than have the french successfully take over their houses and farms and eat and steal their food, etc. it's a way to let the french starve!

Why is it important for presidential candidate to spend more time campaigning in states with a higher population than lower popu
igor_vitrenko [27]
The larger state, the more votes. If the state has a large population the state have more votes to give. The states vote as blocks. So if 51% of people vote for a candidate in a state it is if 100% votes for that candidate. 9 states in America have nearly 60% of the US population. So without this system the whole race would only involve only those 9, and within those 9 only the massive cities they have. Ex. Chicago, New York, LA etc.
