Complete Question:

Change the estimated total amount of the allocation base back to 65,000 machine-hours, so that the data area of you worksheet looks exactly the same as in Requirement 2. Now change the actual manufacturing overhead cost from $395,700 to $387,000. The data area of your worksheet should now look like this:

  1. Allocation base is Machine-hours
  2. Estimated manufacturing overhead cost $383,500
  3. Estimated total amount of the allocation base 65,000 machine-hours
  4. Actual manufacturing overhead cost $387,000
  5. Actual total amount of the allocation base 63,000 machine-hours

Requirement:

Why is the amount of underapplied (overapplied) manufacturing overhead different from Requirement 2 above?

A. The predetermined overhead rate changed.

B. The change in the actual manufacturing overhead cost directly resulted in a comparable change in the amount of underapplied (overapplied) manufacturing overhead.

C. The change in the estimated total amount of the allocation base affected the amount of manufacturing overhead applied.

Answer:

Option B. The change in the actual manufacturing overhead cost directly resulted in a comparable change in the amount of underapplied (overapplied) manufacturing overhead.

Option C. The change in the estimated total amount of the allocation base affected the amount of manufacturing overhead applied.

Explanation:

Option A is incorrect because predetermined Overhead Absorption Rate (OAR) never changes.

Option B is correct. Due to budgeted ($383,500) and actual Manufacturing overhead cost ($387,000) difference which clearly shows that the actual cost was higher than the budgeted manufacturing cost. This cost difference factor was one of the main reason of underapplied overhead cost. Furthermore, due to this difference the Actual Overhead Absorption Rate was higher and the Budgeted Overhead Absorption Rate that we were using for pricing and costing purpose was lower in value.

Option C. Due to the difference between budgeted (65,000 Hrs) and actual allocation Base (63,000 Hrs) which is machine hours in this case. The overhead absorbed on the basis of machine hours (63,000 Hrs) were lower than the budget set (65,000 Hrs). Allocation base is an appropriate basis which is use to assign overhead cost to each unit product, it can be units product, labor hours, machine hours, etc.

marissa [1.9K]

Answer:

1. Hourly Direct Labor Cost rate = Direct Labor cost / Direct Labor hours

Hourly Direct Labor Cost rate = 2,500,000 / 25,000

Hourly Direct Labor Cost rate = $100 per hour

Computation of Indirect cost

Office Rent $320,000

Support staff salaries $1,260,000

Utilities $420,000

Total Indirect Costs $2,000,000

Predetermined indirect cost allocation rate = = Total Estimated indirect cost / Total estimated direct labor cost = 2,000,000 / 2,500,000 = 80% of Direct Cost

2. Direct Labor $25,000 (250 * 100)

Indirect Cost $20,000 (25,000 * 80%)

Total Predicted cost $45,000

3. Predicted cost $45,000

Desired Profit $22,500 (50% of $45,000)

Required Service revenue $67,500

Vika [28.1K]

Answer:

A. 0.684

Explanation:

A seasonal index refers to an index that is used to compare the value for a particular period with the average value of all periods.

The purpose of using a seasonal index is to show the relationship between the two values, and the degree to which the two values are different.

The seasonal index can be calculated as the latest value for a period divided by the average of all periods. Therefore, we have:

Seasonal index for July = Latest value for July / Average demand over all months = 130 / 190 = 0.684.

Therefore, he approximate seasonal index for July is 0.684.

Sunny_sXe [5.5K]

Answer:

Machining:

Allocated MOH= $603

Assembly:

Allocated MOH= $450

Explanation:

Giving the following information:

Machining:

Allocates overhead using machine-hours

Estimated manufacturing overhead: $670,000

Estimated machine-hours= 10,000

Assembly:

Allocates overhead using direct labor hours.

Estimated manufacturing overhead: $450,000

Estimated direct labor hours= 15,000 hours

First, we need to calculate the estimated manufacturing overhead rate for each department:

To calculate the estimated manufacturing overhead rate we need to use the following formula:

Estimated manufacturing overhead rate= total estimated overhead costs for the period/ total amount of allocation base

Machining:

Estimated manufacturing overhead rate= 670,000/10,000= $67 per machine hour

Assembly:

Estimated manufacturing overhead rate= 450,000/15,000= $30 per direct labor hour.

Job 601:

Machining Department: 9 Machine Hours

Assembly Department: 15 DL hours

To allocate overhead we use the following formula:

Allocated MOH= Estimated manufacturing overhead rate* Actual amount of allocation base

Machining:

Allocated MOH= 67*9= $603

Assembly:

Allocated MOH= 30*15= $450
