Joan of Arc is a famous woman in history revered by the French who fought in the Hundred Years War. She was captured at the age of 19 and executed by the English. After her execution, England never regained ground in the war. The French eventually won the war and reclaimed the land they lost to the English. Well Pope Callixtux III declared Joan as innocent of her crimes. At this time she was beginning to become a martyr. And later in 1920 she became canonized. (An official declaration of Sainthood) Every year on may 8th at Orleans, a pageant re-enacts Joan's entry into the city. The french valued Joan very much and still do today hundreds of years after her death.
