I want to study marine life, like dolphins and sharks. I should learn about oceanography.

Oceanography is an earth science that deals with all the physical, biological, and chemical aspects of the oceans and seas, including their origin and geologic composition, and the organisms that live in the marine environment. Oceanography is divided into four branches which include; marine ecology (the study of marine organisms (plants and animals)), physical oceanography (the study of ocean’s properties such as temperature), chemical oceanography (the study of sea water component and the influence of biogeochemical cycles) and marine geology (the study of evolution and features of sea water).

Diatom oozes are only found in a ring that spans the North Pacific Ocean and an almost continuous belt that surrounds Antarctica.

Nutritional requirements of diatoms and are more common in the warmer seas towards the equator.

As a result, siliceous radiolarian ooze predominates in the equatorial coastal Pacific, while siliceous diatom ooze predominates in the polar regions.

Therefore,  The dominant sediment type found along the equatorial Pacific Ocean is biogenous
