William Jennings Bryan lost the presidential election of November 3, 1896 in the United States against the Republican William McKinley

Economically influenced several factors such as bimetallism, the gold standard, free silver and the tariff.

As a strategy, Bryan extended his campaign by mobilizing by train to have more impact. He made his speech approximately 600 times. But the issue of silver was not so interesting for the rich, middle-class and urban voters that led the Republicans in power to remain there until almost 1932.
