The Judiciary Act of 1801<span> was a partisan political attempt by the </span>Federalists<span> in </span>Congress<span> and the John Quincy Adams administration to overcrowd the federal courts with </span>Federalists...<span> In an attempt to make sure this happened, they passed the Federal </span>Judiciary Act of 1801. The Act<span> reduced the number of Supreme Court Justices from the original six to five.</span>
New France was under direct control of the King. The people had no right to trial by jury or elect an assembly. The population grew slowly and most of the population was Catholic.
