Because General Grant wanted to wage total war on the Confederate States. General Sherman destroyed everything in his path on his march. Sherman's "March to the Sea" followed his successful Atlanta Campaign of May to September 1864. He and the Union Army's commander, Lt. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, believed that the Civil War would come to an end only if the Confederacy's strategic, economic, and psychological capacity for warfare were decisively broken.

About 70% of Earth's freshwater is where?
Pepsi [2]
About 70% of the Earth's freshwater is found in the form of ice caps and glaciers -it is frozen. Out of this, the majority is actually in one place: covering the continent of Antarctica.

One could argue that there is more water in the oceans, but it's not fresh water- it's salty water, so it's not  good to drink.
